White People Stealing Minority Culture: The Horrors of Cultural Appropriation

I drive in order to make ends meet. Most of my passengers are great. But one time a drunk girl got into my car and did something I’ll never forget.

It got me thinking about how white people, the dominant culture, routinely steal from minority cultures for their own benefit. It’s called cultural appropriation.

— No, it’s not okay for white people to say THAT word.

— No, it’s not okay for white people to wear headdresses.

— No, it’s not okay for white people to wear Dashikis or Japanese symbols as tattoos or necklaces.

It is, however, to talk and ask questions and learn from other cultures.
